You find that a lot. Albums that do not amazingly well commercially are fan favourites. The Sensual World is my favourite Kate Bush album. Deeper Understanding is such a beautiful song.

although i do like the dreaming, it’s my least favorate. ( still better than most suff out there ) i love all her albums, but i think her masterpiece has to be aerial. especialy disck 2 (a sky of honey) it took me a couple of listens, but it’s breathtaking. it dont realy matter what order we put them in. we all love the wonder that is kate. just feel sorry for those that never discover har.

@emmagreenbean- I prefer ‘Hounds of Love’ to ‘The Dreaming’ which I thought was taking her artistic talents a bit too far. ‘Hounds of Love’ was much more of a concise and accessible album. It didn’t go too astray with music production and song-writing which I thought ‘The Dreaming’ definitely did.

it’s funny that The Dreaming wasn’t well received on release but later becomes a fan favorite and cited as an influence here and there with random new artists. The Dreaming was just way before its time! HoL is still her best work i think.

What I like about her besides the music is how understated she is, you don’t any streak of megalomania and hunger for publicity so readily apparent with other music artists, most of whom have less talent than Kate.

The Dreaming is unequivically my favorite Kate album and one of my 10 Desert Island Discs. Hounds of Love is right up there but The Dreaming blows my mind

Lol why does Lucy O’Brien keep relating everything Kate does back to some form of feminism? Jeez….
I liked her in the Kate Bush Under Review DVD, but in this she’s a bit too much…

The Dreaming was definitely misunderstood at the time, but I wouldn’t say it hasn’t got due appreciation since then. Lots of people rate it even higher than Hounds of Love (me included).
One of the most fascinating records ever.

I think it’s rather sad that The Dreaming was not only ahead of its time in 1982, but appears to still be ahead of its time in 2009. I would have thought that we’d have caught up to it by this point. Unfortunately it might remain misunderstood until well past the time when it could have actually changed the world.
